Some doctors may choose to enter the field as a general practitioner or continue training to become a specialist or surgeon. In addition, you can specialise in hospital management or opting to make research your primary career.
Queen Mary is one of the best universities to study medicine in the UK. As you would expect from a medical college that has 230 years’ experience of training the next generation of doctors and surgeons, their students are very satisfied with their learning experience – in the most recent National Student Survey (NSS 2014), 94 per cent were satisfied with the quality of their course. The new Malta campus will provide the same high standards of innovative research-led teaching and investment in excellent facilities to the MBBS in Malta.

Year 1 – 2 :
Phase 1 is taught via a series of systems-based modules which introduce the basic biological sciences and address key topics including normal biological structure and function of cells, organs and body systems, the effect of illness on people and their families and the impact of environmental and social factors on health. Students are regularly placed in general practices where they can learn about the clinical context of their growing medical knowledge.
Year 2 – 3:
Students regularly return to the medical school for teaching weeks and assessments as well as being introduced to clinical medicine through a series of placements in our associated teaching hospitals in Malta and Gozo. Students’ knowledge and clinical skills are enhanced by working alongside clinical teams both in the hospital and also within community placements. This enables them to expand and apply the knowledge and skills acquired during Phase 1.
Year 5 :
The final year of the programme provides students with clinical and community placements, practical skills and first-hand experience of the working life of a first year Foundation Year (FY1) doctor. Students are placed in the hospital and firm where they will be based for their FY1 training. On successful completion of final examinations, students complete a four-week elective and this is followed by a further four-week hospital placement.
Queen Mary combine continuous assessment in addition to examinations throughout the programme. A scheme of merits and distinctions rewards excellent or outstanding performance across each sector of the curriculum. There is also a comprehensive scheme of prizes to recognise special ability both in the main examinations and in specialist subjects.
All Candidates must sit the United Kingdom Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT). Candidates can sit the UKCAT in July 2017 for September 2017 entry. In addition, you must meet the minimum requirements set out by Queen Mary. If you do not meet the requirements, Educom offers a number of options available to place you in this course.
