HIGHLIGHTS
The School of Medicine has developed an innovative programme to provide a UK MBBS medical qualification for international (Non-EU) students who would normally have limited access to UK educational courses. UCLan’s MBBS will train doctors through a programme undergoing high quality assurance by the UK General Medical Council and which offers a medical education to the highest UK standards for self-funded and sponsored international students.
The course builds on UCLan’s existing expertise in dentistry, pharmacy, and allied health professions and students will be part of a School which will allow for unique interactions with these groups of students. UCLan’s MBBS programme will deliver outstanding teaching, combined with real-world clinical experience, to shape the global doctors of the future. The MBBS programme has been developed in line with General Medical Council (GMC) quality assurance processes and as with any new medical school receives regular quality assurance visits from the GMC.
The MBBS degree will provide graduates with a UK primary medical qualification who are to take on the roles and responsibilities of a medical doctor entering into foundation postgraduate training or international equivalent, as required by the GMC.
The degree places an emphasis on basic medical sciences, communication and clinical skills to help you develop skills in evaluating clinical and scientific evidence. Throughout the programme, you will benefit from a range of learning strategies, such as small group tutorials, seminars, laboratory-based teaching sessions, workshops and clinical placements in primary and secondary care.

Graduates of the MBBS programme at UCLan are to enjoy excellent career opportunities across the British healthcare sector and across the world. With multiple options for postgraduate training available to UCLan MBBS graduates, the UCLan Transitions Lead will work with students on a prospective and proactive basis, from early in training, to facilitate onward working across the globe. UCLan would like to highlight to students who wish to work in Singapore and Thailand after graduation, that there are particular issues with this and so it is highly advised that you speak to an Educom consultant prior to your application.
All UK graduates are eligible to apply to the UK Foundation Programme. Entry onto this programme requires an applicant to have the right to work in the UK and involves a highly competitive process with other UK and EU graduates and there is no guarantee of success.
The GMC is currently considering the introduction of a formal assessment that UK medical graduates would need to pass in order to be granted registration with a licence to practise. Although no final decision has been taken as to whether or when such an exam will be introduced applicants should be aware that the GMC envisages that future cohorts of medical students may need to pass parts of a medical licensing assessment before the GMC will grant them registration with a licence to practise. Cost of one sitting of this assessment is included in the MBBS course fees. Any resits of the assessment will be at the student’s additional cost.
The opportunities stemming from the MBBS programme are both extensive and overwhelming. Both UCLan and Educom consultants will offer one-to-one personal counseling on selecting the best medical pathway to work towards your career aspirations.
Educom will walk through you the entire process when applying for the MBBS programme at UCLan. Although entry is competitive, our team is dedicated to maximising your chance of success.
