Entry Requirements

For admission to MU Sofia, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Pass national medical admission test in Biology and Chemistry
  • English TOEFL or IELTS
  • Minimum of 62% in high school qualifications, including Biology and Chemistry

Document Requirements

In order to complete your application to MU Sofia, students must provide the following in addition to meeting the academic entry requirements:

  • Official transcript from secondary and high school education
  • Statement issued by the school confirming the student has the right to continue her or his education to university
  • Passport
  • Six passport photos
  • All documents must be approved by your respective Bulgarian Embassy

Most graduates practise medicine within the EU while others do so internationally outside the EU.

Transportation

Public transportation in Sofia is convenient and affordable. The closest tram station to MU Sofia is National Palace of Culture. Students can take tram no. 7 to get around the city – it goes along Bulgaria boulevard, one of the main boulevards in Sofia.

 

Student Life

MU Sofia boast a vibrant student culture outside of the classroom. Students can enjoy student clubs ranging from sports to the arts. Located in the heart of the city, students are immersed in the local culture, with access to museums, restaurants, bars and more. Bulgaria also offers a beautiful outdoor culture and going on weekend trips for hikes and more is also an exciting option for students.

Accommodation

Students can choose to live off-campus and in the city. Accommodation is uniquely affordable relative to other medical study destinations. Students should expect to allocate €250 – €500 per month on rent in Sofia.

Visa

Should you receive a Letter of Acceptance by MU Sofia, non-EU students must apply for a D type student visa at the Bulgarian embassy or consular office in their own countries, which is valid for 3 to 6 months, which will be renewed at a regular basis. EU and non-EU citizens from countries that have signed bilateral treaties and agreements with Bulgaria concerning for visa-free entry* do not require visa clearance to enter the country. However, in order to register at a medical school, a Student D-type Visa is required.

  • A photocopy of the passport, valid at least 12 months from the application day.
  • The original Letter of Admission to the MU Sofia issued by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education, Youth and Science
  • Bank statement from the past 3-6 months proving sufficient funds to cover tuition and living costs
  • Two colour passport-size photographs (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm against white background, bearing the photographer’s or studio business name and date at the back)
  • Proof of health insurance for the duration of the student’s residence in Bulgaria, issued by a private or public organisation
  • A CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) Check which can be obtained at the student’s local police station

Medicine Dentistry Pharmacy
Tuition for the 6-year MSc in Medicine is €8000 per academic year. Tuition for the 5.5-year MSc in Dentistry is €8000 per academic year. Tuition for the 5-year MSc in Pharmacy is €6000 per academic year.
