Course Details
The core of the MD programme consists of a 157–week curriculum that many students complete in four calendar years. In years one and two, students study medical courses on the True Blue campus in Grenada. Students in the Basic Sciences phase of the MD program learn through traditional lectures and laboratory sessions augmented by small–group sessions and case–based learning exercises.However, the SGU offers a wide range of entry points onto its MD programme to best accommodate your academic background. Multiple entry points, depending on your background, allow you to take 1 – 3 years of foundational training in the sciences to prepare for the comprehensive MD core that will allow you to become a professionally trained doctor.

The premedical and Basic Sciences phases of the MD program utilise traditional lectures and laboratory sessions augmented by small-group sessions and case-based learning exercises. Clinical training is hospital- and clinic-based, and uses bedside teaching augmented by lectures, small groups and reading.

The 5-Year MD programme is designed for students with Advanced Level or International Baccalaureate credentials. Students build upon an academic background in science with challenging medical education courseworks in anatomy, physiology, and other foundational sciences necessary for success in the basic sciences and the clinical sciences phases of the MD programme in SGU’s medical school.

The 7–year Doctor of Medicine program is designed for students who have secondary school credentials who need to study a complete course in the foundation sciences necessary to be successful in the medical degree program. With a focus on premedical sciences, social sciences, and humanities, the 7–year entry point offers this necessary foundation towards the successful completion in becoming a professionally certified doctor.

Accommodation
The University offers beautifully designed living space for students. A variety of living spaces have been built to provide a wide range of accommodation to best suit the needs of the multi-aged and multicultural student community. Most of the residences have been configured as suites.These suites consist of a varied number of bedrooms (single or double), each with its own bathroom, opening into a common kitchen/living area. All residences have air conditioning and internet access.All dormitories are staffed with Resident Assitants, known as RAs. RAs help foster a warm community of mutual respect and cooperation and can provide assistance to students when needed.SGU accommodation also includes a cleaning service that operates twice a week to sweep, mop floors and clean bathrooms.
Spread across 42 acres on the southwest corner of Grenada, SGU’s main campus offers a variety of residence options for students. This is the location of the majority of its student housing facilities. All True Blue residence halls have central air conditioning, high-speed internet access, laundry facilities and each bedroom is furnished with twin sized bed(s)*, chai(s), desk(s), closet space and booksheves. Kitchen facilities include a refrigerator, cook top stove and microwave. Students are required to bring their linens (twin size and standard length) and tableware and cutlery.
*Married suites have a queen size bed. There is a limited amount of campus residence space for married students. More space is available in off-campus University-recommended housing.

SGU also offers housing in the Grand Anse dormitories. Located on the beautiful Grand Anse Beach, close to shops and restaurants, the Grand Anse campus is approx. 3 miles––or a 5 min bus ride––from the main True Blue Campus. University buses run every 15 minutes.
All Grand Anse residence halls are fully equipped with air conditioning, high-speed internet access and laundry facilities. Each bedroom is furnished with twin sized bed(s), chair(s), desk(s), closet space, bookshelves, and a refrigerator. Rooms also incldue patio space and a private bathroom. Communal kitchens are available in the building and are equipped with refrigerators, stove tops, microwaves and deep freezers. Students are required to bring their or purchase linens (twin size and standard length) as well as tableware and cutlery.
All Grand Anse residence halls are fully equipped with air conditioning, high-speed internet access and laundry facilities. Each bedroom is furnished with twin sized bed(s), chair(s), desk(s), closet space, bookshelves, and a refrigerator. Rooms also incldue patio space and a private bathroom. The rooms are wired for 220 volt and you will need a transformer for most North American electronics with a 110 volt capacity.

Visa

When you arrive in Grenada, you must have the following documents on your person* to present to immigration officials:
- A valid passports (Grenada requires that passports be valid for six months beyond the date of entry)
- SGU Letter of Acceptance
- SGU Letter to the Immigration Authorities
- Students traveling from regions where Yellow Fever is endemic must show proof of vaccination against this disease upon entry to Grenada.
*Grenada Immigrations requires a printed copy of all documents– electronic versions will not be accepted.
Please be aware that Grenada can change their visa policies at any time out of necessity, security requirements, violations, etc. It is the student’s responsibility to keep abreast of visa regulations that may impact you as you progress through your programme and travel to and from Grenada.
In most cases, students are not required to obtain a visa before traveling to Grenada. Citizens of the US, Canada, CARICOM countries, United Kingdom, some Commonwealth countries, some European Union countries, and those countries with which Grenada has official visa waiver agreements are considered Visa Exempt and do not require a visa to enter Grenada.
Students who are citizens of countries that require visas must apply for a Visa Upon Arrival with the Grenadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs prior to their departure. Once you arrive in Grenada your visa will be fully processed and issues. Please ensure you have your SGU letter of acceptance and any other necessary documentation on your person when you meet with the customs agent.
